Professional Alloy Wheel Welding Repair Process (TIG Welding)
A cracked alloy wheel needs to be properly assessed before any repair is carried out.
We first check the location and extent of the crack to determine whether the wheel is suitable for repair. If it is, we prepare the damaged area, repair it using TIG welding and then test the wheel for leaks.
We start by carefully inspecting the wheel and the damaged area.
We look at where the crack is, how large and deep it is, whether it goes all the way through the wheel and whether there are any other signs of damage.
The tyre, valve and tyre pressure sensor are removed so we can properly access the damaged area.
We then clean around the crack, removing paint, corrosion, brake dust and other contamination.
This gives us a clean surface to work with before the repair begins.
The damaged area is carefully opened and prepared along the crack.
This allows the repair to reach through the damaged area rather than simply covering the crack on the surface.
Before welding, the wheel is gradually heated to prepare the aluminium for the repair.
This helps reduce stress on the metal and allows the welding process to be carried out more effectively.
The crack is repaired using TIG welding, a controlled welding method suitable for aluminium alloy wheels.
The damaged area is carefully welded to repair the crack through its full depth rather than applying a quick surface patch.
Once the welding is complete, we allow the wheel to cool naturally.
We don’t rapidly cool it with water or other methods, as sudden temperature changes can affect the repaired area.
Once cooled, the welded area is carefully smoothed and reshaped.
We also check the wheel again and, if required, identify whether it needs additional straightening.
The tyre is refitted and inflated before the wheel is tested for air leaks.
The wheel is submerged in water so we can check that air isn’t escaping from the repaired area.
You get a professionally repaired and leak-tested wheel that has gone through a controlled repair process from initial inspection through to final testing.
Importantly, not every cracked wheel should be repaired. We’ll assess the damage first and only proceed when the wheel is considered suitable for repair.
Crack repairs are performed using professional TIG welding techniques to restore the structural integrity of a damaged alloy wheel. Welding is a repair
process applied to a wheel that has already suffered structural failure.
While the repair is carried out to industry standards, welding alters the material properties of the alloy in the repaired area. As a result, the wheel may
not perform identically to a new or undamaged wheel.
By authorising this repair, you acknowledge that the wheel has been structurally damaged and repaired. DCA Wheel Refurbishment Ltd cannot
guarantee the long-term durability of the repair and accepts no liability for any future cracking, failure, air leaks, or damage resulting from the original defect or repaired area.
The repaired wheel should be regularly inspected and is repaired at the customer’s own risk.

Absolutely over the moon with the refurb Bryan at DCA did on my OEM 437M wheels. From start to finish the service was spot on. Very friendly guy, excellent workmanship, great comms throughout and you can tell he genuinely cares about the quality of his work. I went for the ferric grey and diamond cut finish and the wheels have come out looking absolutely stunning — better than I expected. The finish is clean, consistent and OEM+ quality. Bryan also took the time to explain the process properly and kept me updated throughout, which gave me a lot of confidence after previous bad experiences elsewhere. Turnaround was quick, attention to detail was excellent and the overall experience was professional from start to finish. I couldn’t be happier with the transformation that Bryan has achieved with my Audi A7 wheels. They were 11 years old, curb rashed, paint peeling and generally looking very sad. Now they’re absolutely mint plus the colour transition from standard grey to satin black makes them pop - just gotta get some new black centre caps to match now.
